What happens for you when you first turn off the TV or put down your phone? Do you notice the contrast? Between this fast-paced excitement with ever-changing seemingly-fresh ideas, images, words and noise and then the seeming emptiness and void – a space without?
It is a contrast – especially if you are sensitive and get easily affected by things around you.
And it can initially feel uncomfortable, quite horrible even. The contrast can feel too much, when there isn’t anything obvious to do. Or when, what there is to do, seems hard or uncomfortable, even just thinking about it.
So we go back on. We look back in. We make a feasible or justifiable excuse. Back into distraction. (No judgment required here. x)
There is nothing wrong or abnormal about feeling a bit low sometimes. It is not possible for a human to feel good all the time. But, check-in for a moment…could there be something ‘wrong’? That seems to need fixing?
Or, is it just the contrast between that unknown, empty space and this super-fast-paced, very stimulating screen activity? Which isn’t normal or natural to us and our body, our nervous system.
We were not designed to experience so much in such a short space of time. Especially information that is so highly curated, filtered and continuously changing.
Life is meant to have
gaps
and pauses
and boredom
and moments of no-thing obvious to do or know now.
That’s the fertile ground for wholeness.
When we start hearing and knowing ourselves. Not the neat, tidy well-polished end but the journey. Where we can meet discomfort. Where we may ponder, start to see, understand and grow. Where we can start to see and know ourselves even deeper.
Back to reconnecting with
– who we are
– what we ourselves love and enjoy
– what is true for us individually.
Now. In truth.
Awareness is the first step. No judgment is required.
Let’s start, let’s continue to come home. To normal, to healthy and to the wholeness of you.
